We would like to take this opportunity to welcome all of our Mini’s and Juniors back to the Hithercroft this coming weekend 13th September 2020. Parents new and old, we have a really special club and I hope you will find your experience a welcoming one. I will personally try to get around and introduce myself to you over the coming weekends and it will be a pleasure to get everyone back playing the game we all love.

Are you COVID secure?

As parents, there are some specific RFU COVID guidelines we need you to follow to enable us to operate as a club and enable you to continue playing each week. I would appreciate you speaking with your age group managers/admins to understand what these mean for you. We will be asking the children to sanitise their hands, log into a COVID symptoms app (here) before coming to training and we will be following guidance/protocols on rugby balls and equipment. your team admins/managers will let you know more about this.

What if I have some concerns?

Firstly speak with the Head Coach for your age group, myself or the deputy M&J chairman Doug Haggart can be contacted via the club website. Our details are on there and we would be delighted to answer any concerns you may have

Can I buy a hot drink or bacon sandwich?

These will be available within the club grounds. This is run on a volunteer basis and if you want to get involved in helping please speak with your age group coach or one of the volunteers in the tuck shop. please support our new tuck and coffee shop. All profits go back into the club to help cover our costs and keep memberships down. We need volunteers this weekend (13th September) and then teams will be placed on a rota each week.

How can I get involved?

We have several volunteer role available within the club, from working in the tuck shop, parking marshalls, administrative and coaching roles. Any help is gratefully welcomed. In certain roles, you will need to undertake a DBS check before you can help, but this is usually a formality and can be completed very quickly.

I’ve never been to a rugby club or played rugby, will I fit in?

You may be surprised to find that many of our members join as 4 or 5 year olds and some stay for life. Some of our first team players were part of the Mini’s and are still playing for us now. The Wallingford Rugby Club journey is not just about playing rugby, we aim to provide our players with core life skills, support and also teach them to play rugby and hone their skills. Speaking to some of our parents they have met friends for life and we continue to welcome new members, everyone is welcome at our club and we hope that you have a brilliant experience

Can I try rugby before I sign up?

You can come along to three taster sessions before we ask you to commit to paying any subs? – My son came along six years to see if he would like it and he has never looked back

What other parts of the club are there?

We have a very successful 1st and 2nd XV, a growing ladies team and a thriving touch rugby section, all of which are open to new members or volunteers

We look forward to welcoming you this weekend, enjoy your rugby, it’s been a long time coming and we cannot wait to get going.

Is parking going to be easier this year?

We have agreed with Hockey that each club will ask one section/age group per week to park at Fugro, a short walk from the sports park. This weekend the U15's will be asked to park there and a rota will be posted on the club social media.

Are we looking for new members?

We are always looking to expand our teams, so please invite your friends to try rugby, we would be delighted to welcome them to the club

Headcase and concussion protocols

Can I please ask that you read through the concussion protocols on the RFU headcase module - There is a section for parents, coaches and players - link here

Finally for existing members, I have attached two documents which are guide on how to pay your subs for the coming season. For insurance purposes, all subs need to be paid by the end of September for the coming season. If you are in any way financially affected by coronovirus and you need support with your subs, we have a hardship fund which you can apply for. A link to GMS can be found here
